“There’s a small girl who fascinates me deeply. Beyond her sassiness and remarkable comprehension for such a young age, she spends time with things that us adults can’t see. I love witnessing this journey of hers and tried to capture what such a conversation might look like. The leopard, with its spiritual significance of perception, felt like a fitting character for this scene. It’s also my favorite animal from when I was her age, long before I had enough data in my brain to figure out why. At the heart of this image lies the truth that children are aware of far more than we can ever know. They definitely notice when something or someone is present—and even more so when someone is not.”
